I have done alot of DIY from www.diynatural.com. I really recommend checking it out. They have a recipe for making your own super easy and yummy chocolate syrup, fabric softener, dryer sheets, hand sanitizer, laundry soap, etc. I have done the dryer sheets, softener, mouth wash, chocolate syrup, and facial cleanser. It makes me really happy to do things or make things myself. The recipes are simple and easy and I pretty much have everything in these recipes already. They also have a recipe for dishwasher detergent.
Here's a link to making your own liquid handsoap: Homemade Non Toxic Liquid Hand Soap This is the one I used. I grated a lye soap bar and mine turned out a little thin (it made a gallon's worth which is great)but it still works fine but if it is too thin to your liking you can always add vegetable glycerine to thicken it up. If it's not cleaning the grease from your family's hands when you work on vehicles then it might be because the liquid is thin and needs a thickener or you could always try vinegar in a wash bowl and wash hands that way or add vegetable glycerine the the vinegar. I am thinking of doing one of those with the vinegar since my Dad had a little trouble getting his off. Vinegar cuts grease hence my reason for suggesting it.
